just read an article in christianity today that said early marriage is a good idea...and maybe i missed the point completely but here's a rant.
they do go over reasons why marrying too "early" is not a good thing, but seriously, why is there even an article about this?
you can read the article here: http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2009/august/16.22.html
because christian people can't hold back their sexual desires they should get married and live wonderful lives blah blah blah.
can't agree with that.
1 - if you're a christian who is not able to hold back your sexual desire for someone that is not even a christian. don't get married. bible says not to. end.
2 - if you're a christian who is not able to hold back your sexual desire period...early marriage is still not the answer.
3 - if you're a christian and have been dating this wonderful other christian and can't hold back your sexual desire...early marriage still isn't the way to go.
MARRIAGE SHOULD NOT BE BASED ON SEXUAL DESIRE ALONE! NOR SHOULD IT BE BASED ON WHEN A FEMALE/MALE IS MOST FERTILE AND CAN REPRODUCE!
Christian marriage is a covenant between GOD and two people who want to share their lives with GOD (notice i put Him first...) and with eachother. Barring sexual circumstance or not, MARRIAGE is not something to be done because one cannot control themselves and/or want to re-populate the earth.
Not because some magazine says because you're not controlling your sexual desire you need to just get married so you can do it whenever you want, produce offspring and then they can get married to the first person that makes them horny.
really. get a grip.
now, i'm not against someone getting married at an early age, but it darned well better be because you KNOW you're meant to be with this person for the REST OF YOUR LIFE and not just because a christian magazine said we should be getting married in our early 20's and populate the earth because that was God's design.
GOD's PLAN for everyone individually cannot be put into a magazine writing based on one person's opinion.
you may be married at 18, you may be married at 50. you may NEVER be married! GOD knows what he is doing! GOD may have made our biological clocks to run out at a certian time but until then, we are capable of doing great things. if we follow HIM. not our own agenda.
as long as HE is leading your life, who cares when you get married, as long as it's to the right person, for the right reasons, for the glory of GOD in your marriage or in your quest of singleness!
the rant is over. lol
I agree whole-heartedly with the almost last paragraph of the article and with most of the other things in it. it just produced a rant and i needed to type it out. :)
"In sum, Christians need to get real about marriage: it's a covenant helpmate thing that suffers from too much idealism and too little realism.Weddings may be beautiful, but marriages become beautiful. Personal storytelling and testimonies can work wonders here, since so much about life is learned behavior. Young adults want to know that it's possible for two fellow believers to stay happy together for a lifetime, and they need to hear how the generations preceding them did it.
